Benefits of using SiteGround
If you’re on the hunt for the best web hosting company, then you’ll want to be sure that the web host that you choose can provide a lot of features that you can take advantage of. This way, you’ll be sure to get the most out of your web hosting provider.
We took an in-depth look at SiteGround and here are some of the benefits that you’ll experience if you’re working with them to host your website.
SiteGround has Good Uptime
When you’re choosing a web host, you’ll want to make sure that they can provide excellent uptime. This is because a website will do you no good unless it’s hosted in a live environment so that your audience can find your business online.
If your web host doesn’t have excellent uptime then your customers may not be able to access your website when they want to, and this can frustrate your customers, and it doesn’t look very professional on your part.
Always take a look at your hosting provider’s uptime record, and make sure that they have a good history when it comes to uptime. With SiteGround, we found that their uptime is averaging at 99.9% over the last year, which is a pretty good record within the hosting industry.
SiteGround also offers an Uptime Guarantee of 99%, which means that they will refund you your monthly payment if they are not able to host your website for at least 99% of the time every month. Read more about SiteGround’s server uptime.
Above Average Load Time
If you want your website to succeed online, then you need to make sure that your website is fast. This is because your audience has come to expect that sites are quick, and search engines will also rank a fast website higher than a slow website.
This means that if you have a fast website, then you’ll have happy customers and over time you’ll get more organic traffic from search engines.
We took a look at about 30 different hosting providers and determined that the average hosting load time was 0.7ms which isn’t high speed, but it’s also not that poor either.
SiteGround has beaten the Industry average by having a load time of 684ms. While this isn’t the best hosting speeds that you can find, it still beats out a lot of companies within the hosting space. Read more about SiteGround’s server speed.
Good Customer Support
One of the biggest frustrations that can come from working with a hosting provider is dealing with a support staff that doesn’t know what they’re doing or how to solve the issues that you’re experiencing.
This can be a colossal waste of time, and sometimes, it can even cause you more problems than you started with if the support staff gives you poor advice.
We decided to take a look at what SiteGround had to offer with their support staff, and we were happy with what we found.
SiteGround has a support staff that can be accessed on a 24/7 basis through live chat, and they also offer phone support or a ticket support system so that your case never gets lost and so they can follow up to make sure that your problems were resolved. You’ll be able to talk to a support representative within 3-5 minutes, and we found that they were helpful, happy to help and knowledgeable on hosting issues.
Since Support Staff is such an important issue, we were much happier with SiteGround after finding out that they have an excellent support team that’s standing by to help their customers.
Recommended by WordPress
If you’re looking to build a WordPress website, then you’ll likely want to use SiteGround to help host your site. They offer WordPress specific hosting, and WordPress has personally recommended them.
In fact, there are only three companies that have been recommended by WordPress.Org.
This is a pretty big vote of confidence, especially when you consider that almost half of the websites on the internet are being built with WordPress. So, if you’re using WordPress to help develop your site, then you may want to consider using a WordPress approved web host.
Scalable Hosting Plans
One of the reasons that we love SiteGround is because they offer flexible hosting plans which are scalable. This is an important feature to have when you’re working with any web hosting company.
You don’t want to start working with a web host and buy into their long term contracts and then find out that your website needs more web data than your current plan provides, but not be able to upgrade your hosting plan.
If this were the case, then your hosting provider would keep your website from growing, and you’ll lose money by needing to buy a different web hosting plan.
When you work with SiteGround, you’ll find that you’re able to upgrade your hosting plans as your website grows and requires more server resources. This feature will allow you to save money on hosting, in the early stages, when you don’t need a premium hosting plan. You can upgrade your hosting plan later, as you require.
Great Security Features
With website security being such an important issue, we are happy that SiteGround has taken security pretty seriously and have taken steps to ensure that all of their customers are protected when they host a website online.
SiteGround has set high-level protocols in place at all of their data centers where their servers are located, and they also provide a variety of tools that you can use to help protect your website while it’s online.
You will also receive a free SSL certificate with any of their hosting plans which will encrypt the web traffic that goes from your web host to your website so that even your audience is protected. They also provide a free CDN from Cloudflare, which will optimize the performance of your website and also protect your website from DDoS and many other forms of attacks.
These levels of security are reassuring to see from any hosting provider because it shows that they care about their customers and ensuring that everyone is safe when they’re browsing online.
Free Website Migration
Another nice feature that’s provided by SiteGround is their free website migrations for one website. Some companies will charge as much as $150 for this same service so it’ll be saving you a bit of money if you ever need to have a website migration.
The free website migration is only available to the higher level hosting plans, but if you choose to buy their cheapest web hosting plan, then they’ll still offer a plugin tool to perform the migration for you.
Whenever a web host makes their clients do their website migrations, then it doesn’t rest easy with us because this could cause a lot of issues, but it’s slightly different when you’re dealing with SiteGround.
All you’ll need to do is install their SiteGround Migrator Plugin, and it will do the work for you. While this may take a little bit of extra work, you’ll be able to do multiple website migrations for free when you’re using their Migrator Plugin.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
It’s always great when a web host can provide some sort of money-back guarantee if you’re unhappy with their services. This helps to protect any customers from being unhappy about their hosting plan or getting stuck in a long term contract without being satisfied.
A refund policy will allow you to sign up for hosting services and then test the company and try out various features before making your final decision. This way you can always cancel your hosting plan within the 30 days and receive a refund for your hosting fees if you find that they aren’t a good fit for your business.
SiteGround has a Good Track Record
If you’re going to sign a long term contract with any hosting, then you’ll want to make sure that the company you choose has a good track record. If they don’t have a good track record, then that may be a sign that they’re difficult to deal with.
SiteGround has been around for one and a half decades and employs over 500 people to help host over 2 million client websites. That’s a pretty good track record and a sign that they’re doing a lot of things right.
It’s also a reliable indicator that they are a high-quality web host and are easy to deal with or else they wouldn’t have over 2 million clients.
Disadvantages of SiteGround
There is no such thing as the perfect web host because every company will have flaws and areas where they aren’t as good as their competition. Many web hosts will boast of the benefits of working with their company, but few will tell you of their areas where they find themselves lacking.
We reviewed SiteGround and here are the disadvantages that we were able to find which you’ll experience if you work with SiteGround.
It’s pretty standard for you to come across companies which will charge a higher renewal rate for your hosting after your initial contract has expired. This isn’t a disadvantage, but it is something that you’ll want to be aware of before buying your hosting.
It works like this. A hosting company will offer you really low rates for hosting, but those low rates will only apply if you buy a long term contract. After that contract has expired, you’ll be paying the standard hosting rates without a discount (unless you’re able to find a promo when you need to renew).
You’ll want to take a look at the standard rates and be sure that you’re ‘okay’ with paying those fees when it comes time to renew your contract in a few years. This way, you won’t be surprised by higher than normal hosting rates when you renew your hosting.
Hidden ‘Set-Up’ Fee for 1 Month Plan
It would be nice if you were able to purchase hosting for a one month term and no need to buy a long term contract so that you can test the hosting provider for a more extended period and see if their services are up to your standards.
SiteGround does offer hosting with a 1-month term which looks great until you realize that there’s a hidden fee of $14.95 for them to set up your hosting. This may not be too bad, and many people may think that it’s worth trying, and then they can sign their long term contract.
The trap in using this 1-month contract is that this contract will be considered your “initial” contract. This means that if you want to renew your hosting, you’ll be paying regular hosting rates instead of being able to cash in on the cheap web hosting for 36 months.
Don’t use their one month contract unless you’re okay with paying higher hosting rates in 1 month instead of 36 months later once your three-year initial contract has expired.
Limited Cheap Plan
The cheapest web hosting plan that’s offered by SiteGround is called their Startup plan, which starts at $3.95 per month. This plan is priced competitively with other basic hosting plans, and it seems like a great deal.
Their estimates are slightly wrong, however, because this is a shared hosting plan. They say that the 10GB of data that they provide will be able to handle 10,000 viewers every month.
While your website may be able to handle up to 10,000 viewers, your website will likely have poor performance if your website is getting that much traffic while on a cheap shared hosting plan.
This means that you’ll likely need to upgrade your hosting plan if your website is getting 10,000 viewers every month so that you can provide a better viewing experience to your audience.
SiteGround’s Plans and Pricing
If you’re going to purchase web hosting, then you’ll want to make sure that the hosting provider that you choose to deal with has hosting plans which will fit the needs of your website and also priced within your budget. This will ensure that your website will be able to grow without breaking the bank.
Siteground has three different types of web hosting that they offer.
We will be taking a look at each of these hosting plans and breaking them down so that you can determine which hosting plan will fit your needs and decide which hosting plans are the best for your needs.
One of the most common forms of web hosting is called shared web hosting. This form of hosting is a hosting server that is being shared by multiple websites. All server resources are then shared (not necessarily equally) among all websites that are hosted on the shared server.
This will make it a lot cheaper for the website owners, but it can also cause some issues for the websites being hosted on a shared server. The main problem is that some of the sites may load slower because there’s not enough data for all the websites to use. So when one website experiences a spike in traffic, then the other websites on that server will tend to lag and load slowly.
This issue can become severe when there’s a website that has far too much traffic for the hosting plan it’s on and when there’s a ‘faulty’ website that eats through too much data, leaving little to no remaining server resources for the other sites.
Despite its glaring problems, shared hosting is still quite popular among smaller websites, due to the cheaper price tag. Often, a site doesn’t require much data from a hosting provider because they don’t receive enough web traffic to upgrade their hosting plan past shared hosting.
If you’re wanting to purchase shared hosting through SiteGround, then they have three pricing plans that you can choose from for shared hosting. These plans are:
- Startup Plan — As low as $3.95 per month
- GrowBig Plan — As low as $5.95 per month
- GoGeek Plan — As low as $11.95 per month
If you need a good quality web host to help host a smaller website, then Siteground is a reliable option. Their plans are priced well, and they have a lot of features that you can take advantage of as a SiteGround customer.
Who will benefit from SiteGround’s Shared Hosting?
If you are looking for web hosting for a smaller website, then you’ll benefit from using shared hosting as your hosting type. Shared hosting can handle a few thousand website visitors without causing a poor viewing experience.
Shared hosting can sometimes have issues when you have a large website, but it’s also far cheaper than other forms of hosting. So if you have under 100k viewers per month, then you’ll be able to benefit from SiteGround’s Shared hosting plans.
If you want your website to be able to have guaranteed resources that nobody else can use but you then you’ll want to take a look at cloud hosting. Cloud Hosting gives your website the ability to scale, manage, and grow your website easily.
You’ll also be given a specific amount of hosting data that your website can use, monthly, so that your audience will have a smooth viewing experience. This will help to prevent slow load times (unless you exceed your monthly data limits).
Cloud Hosting also uses servers from all over the world, which means that your audience will have similar load times, no matter where they live in the world. You’ll also get better uptime with Cloud Hosting because when a server goes down, then another server will activate to cover for the downed server which means that your website will almost always be live.
SiteGround has four different Cloud Host plans for you to choose from:
- Entry Cloud — As low as $80 per month
- Business Cloud — As low as $120 per month
- Business Plus Cloud — As low as $160 per month
- Super Power Cloud — As low as $240 per month
While SiteGround has high-quality Cloud hosting, they’re not the cheapest cloud hosting that you can find. I would recommend that you find another provider for cloud hosting since there are more affordable options available.
Who will benefit from Cloud Hosting?
If you have a website that receives a large amount of website traffic, then you may want to consider purchasing cloud hosting. This will provide you with more hosting data than a shared server, and you’ll also be able to get an optimal viewing experience to a global audience since you’ll be using servers from all over the world.
Cloud Hosting can be far more expensive, so I would suggest that you use shared hosting until your website needs a bigger hosting plan and only upgrade your plan when you need it.
This will help you save money on hosting by using a hosting plan that meets your needs without buying data that you’re not going to use every month. Remember that you can always upgrade your plan when your website requires more data from your web host.
If your website needs a lot of hosting data, then you may want to consider using a dedicated web server to help host your website. A dedicated web host is a hosting server that is dedicated to hosting just one website.
This will mean that your website will be given all of the resources that the hosting server will be able to provide, and there won’t be any other websites on your server to steal your hosting data or slow down the server.
When you’re using a dedicated web host, your website will also be more secure because there won’t be any other websites on your server which could be insecure and act as a weak link for hackers to use to access your hosting server. This will mean that your website is safer when you’re using a dedicated web server.
Dedicated hosting isn’t cheap, and it’s the most expensive form of hosting that you’ll be able to purchase. I would recommend that you use VPS hosting for as long as possible because you’ll be paying high fees for dedicated hosting.
SiteGround offers three different pricing plans when it comes to dedicated hosting:
- Entry Server — As low as $269 per month
- Power Server — As low as $349 per month
- Super Power Saver — As low as $729 per month
One thing you’ve likely noticed is that dedicated web hosting is more expensive than any other form of web hosting. I would recommend that you start with cloud hosting or VPS hosting and then work your way into bigger plans so you don’t waste money on hosting resources that you’re not using.
Who will benefit from Dedicated Web Hosting?
Dedicated hosting is intended for large websites that require more hosting data than average sites. There are a lot fewer websites on the internet that will need dedicated web hosting because many websites will be able to get by with VPS hosting or cloud hosting.
If you have a large website that is getting over 250,000 views per month, then I would suggest that you look into dedicated hosting if you’ve already tested VPS hosting and have found that it just doesn’t meet your website’s needs.
Do We Recommend SiteGround?
Yes, we absolutely recommend SiteGround! We have found that SiteGround is a high-quality web hosting provider that has been around for an extended period and has continued to be the preferred hosting provider to over 2 million customers.
They offer good hosting plans which are affordable and packed full of features that other companies may not include in their hosting plans. We love their shared hosting plans, their cloud hosting plans. Their WordPress hosting is recommended by WordPress, which is a big vote of confidence.
We don’t exactly love their dedicated hosting plans because there isn’t any discount for extended term contracts which makes them a little bit pricier than other hosting providers. Their plans will work to host your website, but they aren’t the best dedicated-hosting provider on the market.
Overall, we would say that they are a solid hosting provider, and we would recommend them to anyone that needs hosting for their website.
